Now, with a month left until The Elder Scrolls Online gets its first expansion in Morrowind, Bethesda has been ramping up trailer production that emphasizes the game’s strongest selling points. The latest trailer, released yesterday, offers players a glimpse inside the complex political web of Vvardenfell, an island in the province of Morrowind that will constitute a major part of The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind’s expansion story:
The trailer is narrated by legendary assassin Naryu Virian, a member of the Morag Tong and someone who could potentially play a large role in the MMORPG’s expansion this summer. During the video, Naryu explains the roles of the three Great Houses in Vvardenfell, indicating that they each have flaws and serve specific roles before suggesting that when they come into conflict, her assassins are the mediators rather than any negotiator. It’s the exact sort of environment where Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls narratives typically shine, and if The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind’s gameplay can match its vibrant setting, it should make for an exciting addition to the game.
That being said, however, The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind will be facing some tough competition this summer. World of Warcraft’s Legion expansion has firmly entrenched Blizzard’s MMORPG back on top of the genre, while Final Fantasy XIV will be releasing its Stormblood expansion in the same month as Morrowind. Despite The Elder Scrolls Online’s strong player numbers, Bethesda will surely be prioritizing player retention rather than attracting an influx of new players during such an extraordinarily busy year for MMORPGs.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind releases on June 6, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
