As players jump into Elden Ring’s new free-for-all PVP content in the Colosseum, the game’s fluid and complex combat systems are getting even more attention as praise than ever before. In any game that includes competitive PVP gameplay, it is crucial that the mechanics, rules, graphics, and physics work perfectly in order to level the playing field and create the best possible experience for all players.

YouTube user Darth Senju posts a great video that shows off Elden Ring’s hitboxes. For those that don’t know, a hitbox is basically just the border or outline of a character or object that will invoke a collision of some kind. In fighting and combat games, that collision would be a punch or a sword hit or magic or something like that, whereas in a racing game, that collision might be with the border of a racetrack or an obstacle put in the path. Here, Darth Senju shows off how their character just barely avoids projectiles from an enemy while going through an animation of their own attack.
The slowed down video truly shows off Elden Ring’s accurate hitboxes, which players will appreciate so much as they face off against one another in the Colosseum. Many times, developers will work hard on fixing and updating hitboxes in competitive games, like MultiVersus’s updated hitboxes.
Sometimes, players are surprised with, or even annoyed by, the different interactions that can be caused by hitboxes in a game. This Overwatch 2 clip shows how Kiriko’s hands can block the hitbox around her head, preventing headshots from happening. This causes an issue and an imbalance in competitive play in Overwatch 2, as players can exploit this to gain the upper hand.
Of course, Elden Ring players do not need to worry about these issues, as Darth Senju’s video clearly shows. The hitboxes are quite accurate. Though Elden Ring players would like more variety in the Colosseum fights, at least they do not need to worry about small hitbox issues that could cause them to lose a fight in a pinch.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
