There are various theories about the Elden Ring trolls, their relationship with the game’s “giants,” and how they fit into the overarching lore. One question that some Elden Ring fans have had pertains to the strange object that’s can be seen inside the trolls’ exposed chests. A new video by Elden Ring dataminer Zullie the Witch gives fans a closer look at the object, offering some explanation as to its purpose.

Zullie the Witch’s video shows what the object looks like when separated from the troll character model. It basically looks like a small tombstone with a cross on it. The specific lore reason for why this object is inside Elden Ring trolls is not known, but a function for it can be found with the cart trolls, as explained in the video.

As pointed out in the video, the Elden Ring cart trolls have a spike through their torso that goes right through the stone object. The theory then is that the object is a way to attach the trolls to the cart. It’s possible that there is a deeper lore reason for the object, but one has not been revealed in any official capacity. Commenters on Zullie the Witch’s video point out that there are dead troll bodies that players can find in Stormveil Castle that lack the stone object, and so perhaps it actually keeps the creatures alive.

In terms of gameplay, Zullie the Witch discovered that the tablet actually has an “attach point,” which technically makes trolls unofficial Elden Ring mounts. In the video, Zullie the Witch shows what it looks like if one of Elden Ring’s giant crabs monsters mount a troll, and the result is horrifying, to say the least.

In a separate video, Zullie the Witch offered more details about Elden Ring mounts and how many creatures besides Torrent actually have their own attach points. It will be interesting to see if mounts are expanded on in future updates or DLC, but FromSoftware has not announced any solid plans about the game’s future content at the time of this writing.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
