Dragon Ball is a franchise that helped to shape the direction of an entire medium, so it may not be a surprise to hear that fans wish to play as its iconic characters in other video games. Master Roshi the Turtle Hermit may not be the most popular character in the series, but his quirky attitude, strange fashion sense, and unexpected moments of reliability have earned him his share of fans.

Redditor barrera2324 shared screenshots of their attempt at recreating Master Roshi in Elden Ring’s character creator. This design draws on Master Roshi’s combat outfits, possibly because Elden Ring does not allow gamers to explore the Lands Between in shorts, sunglasses, and a Hawaiian shirt. The outfit consists of no shirt, dull brown pants, battered boots, a pair of gauntlets, and a huge turtle shell worn on the back. However, some of the most interesting elements of the design come from different avenues than clothing.
Barrera2324’s “bootleg Master Roshi” is shown with a striking combination of a frail old man’s build and the muscle of a hardened warrior. Dragon Ball often shows Master Roshi being skinny and then visibly bulking up when he is required to fight, which may have inspired this look. He is also shown wielding a straight sword–specifically, the legendary armament known as the Sword of Night and Flame. In the second screenshot, the character is shown using the sword’s weapon skill to create a pillar of blue energy that looks remarkably like Master Roshi’s iconic Kamehameha move.
It appears that other fans find this recreation of one of Dragon Ball’s most famous characters quite entertaining. Master Roshi is well known for mentoring other Dragon Ball characters across the franchise, a task which he is surprisingly good at considering how weird a person he is. He is also notorious for behaving inappropriately toward women, although this rarely works out well for him in the long run. Several users commented on the post advising barrera2324 to keep their recreation of him away from Elden Ring’s female cast, just in case.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
