Thomas the Tank Engine has long been a staple of modding across gaming, with the icon making a viral appearance as the replacement for Alduin almost a decade ago. Since then, Thomas has found his way into Resident Evil, Fallout, and virtually every other mod-friendly game in existence. Thomas has become such a fundamental, and weirdly scary, element of modding culture that a horror game in development titled Choo Choo Charles was inspired by it. Until then, people have more than a few options for implementing Thomas into their games.

Uploaded to hosting site Nexus Mods, the mod is titled “Fire-Breathing Thomas the Tank Engine,” and is said to turn Flying Dragon Agheel into Thomas the Tank Engine. The author, rainergeis, nonchalantly writes in the description that they just thought this was rather funny, using it to learn how to edit in FLVER. Other mods to their name include “Rick Soldier of God,” which turns Elden Ring tutorial boss Soldier of Godrick into a challenge worthy of his name.

FromSoftware’s titles have always boasted a thriving, albeit niche, modding scene, with a community as dedicated as Skyrim’s. However, rather than entirely reconstruct how the game functions, Soulsborne modders tend to implement cut content, increase the difficulty, or craft new/rebalanced experiences. One such mod is “Elden Ring Reforged,” which significantly alters a number of systems, and notably adds a Sekiro-like deflect mechanic that can be indescribably satisfying to experiment with. It additionally introduces a much-appreciated resurrection feature, allowing defeated bosses to be respawned through an option at the Roundtable Hold.

As long as FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series is plagued with troubled online functionality, making the most of the legion of mods that exist for the trio of games, particularly Dark Souls 3, is a worthwhile endeavor. An entire online ecosystem of content creators has formed around the showcasing of these mods, with the “Age of Sunlight”, “Blades Of Ashina”, and “Long May the Shadows Reflect” mods proving to be recently popular for Dark Souls, Dark Souls 3, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice respectively.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
