The first two releases of the Elden Ring manga, which is called The Road to the Erdtree, have already dropped, giving fans a taste of what the official adaptation by renowned manga publisher Kadokawa will be like. Considering Elden Ring’s world is quite a dark setting, with very few places seeming to be designed for anything but killing the player, some may be surprised to find out that the game’s official manga adaptation is actually a comedy.

The first two chapters, entitled “You Thought This’d Be Serious, Didn’t You?” and “Probably Maiden,” are currently available for free via ComicWalker and come fully packed with gags related to FromSoftware’s games and fourth wall breaks. In the protagonist’s meeting with Melina in the second chapter, she’s immediately confused at the fact that he is wearing nothing but his underwear, poking fun at the Wretch class in Elden Ring, which starts with no gear except a big club.

The third issue of Elden Ring’s manga adaptation is set to drop on September 19, with English releases coming alongside the Japanese versions. It seems that this manga will be updated regularly, as it shows the journey of a Wretch Tarnished figuring out the world of the Lands Between, potentially making their way to the title of Elden Lord. Considering that at the end of the most recent issue, the Tarnished has just received Torrent, it seems like defeating the Elden Beast could take hundreds of chapters.

Before the official Elden Ring manga was released, one fan had already created their version of what Elden Ring’s Stormveil Castle would look like in a hand-drawn style. Now that the official adaptation is releasing, soon the fan version of Stormveil Castle might be compared with what the authors of the manga come up with. In any case, it will be interesting to see how the manga tackles some of Elden Ring’s lore, which might not immediately fit the comedy and light tone it is going for.
